Like every year, one of the most important events of the Mallorcan summer takes place in Pollença. We are talking about the 55th edition of the Pollença Music Festival.

The “Festival de Pollença” was established in 1962 by the renowned English violinist Philip Newman.

Currently in the hands of its artistic director, the Musician Joan Valent, the 55th edition of the Pollença Music Festival kicks off with the intention to recall the main purpose of the event since its beginning: the music. Taking place at the Santo Domingo Convent, culture and music lovers alike should mark their calendars with this special event.

This year’s lineup sparks anticipation, from American music of the 20th century, Gershwin and Bernstein, whose pieces will be the protagonists of the first concert, performed by the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, led by the Spanish conductor Angel Gil-Ordonez and accompanied by one of the greatest international pianists, Michel Camilo.

The American Kronos Quartet that utilizes contemporary musical creativity will also be present at the Pollença Music Festival.

Mantra by Stockhausen, a fusion of piano and electronics, creates an evening in Pollença for the audience to enjoy their music.

The festival will also bring the performance of the Soloists of the Czech Philharmonic, tradition and a central-European feeling, that accompany the new emerging value of the interpretation of our country, Judith Jáuregui, with a surprising show: piano and strings, harmonized, flowing in a very special way.

The Zurich Chamber Orchestra will present pieces by Mendelssohn, as well as Bach, Grieg and Elgar, accompanied by the expertise of Sebastian Knauer.

The voice of Valentina Varriale and the interpretation of the Cappella Neapolitana Antonio Flori, a performance that joins two Mediterranean cities and showing that Naples and Mallorca are united in music.

To finish and round off this year’s program, there is also a little treat for the little ones.

The L’Auditori of Barcelona presents its show “Ma, me, mi… Mozart!”, a fun concert for the whole family to get to know and enjoy Mozart’s music in a modern sound.

The Pollença Music Festival is the perfect activity for warm August summer nights in Mallorca.
