Four essential hiking routes through the Serra de Tramuntana
The Serra de Tramuntana is one of the most iconic and extraordinary natural sites in Mallorca; it wasn’t named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 for nothing.
You can find fauna and flora of great variety and beauty in the Serra de Tramuntana. Anyone exploring it by foot can also appreciate the solidity of its walls and trails, built with the “Pedra en Sec” (drystone) technique: a human contribution that, despite its many years of existence, still allows hikers to cross this incomparable landscape in an agile and safe way.
In today’s post, we propose four hiking routes to discover this precious natural treasure in depth:
1. Puig de Maria
- Difficulty: easy family friendly.
- Duration: 55 minutes.
Located within the municipality of Pollença, the Puig de Maria is the ideal option for those staying at the Son Brull Boutique Hotel & Spa and wanting to enjoy a day outdoors in nature. The hiking route up the Puig de Maria is especially recommended for families as it is easy, comfortable and very safe.
In addition, it is a very beautiful excursion leading between the very tall holm oaks up to the summit of Puig de Maria at 333 meters. Once at the top, hikers will find restaurants, bars and picnic spots for a little refreshment.

2. Puig des Teix
- Difficulty: Medium.
- Duration: 4.5 hours.
The Puig des Teix is one of the most attractive and visited summits of the Serra de Tramuntana. One of the most popular points of interest of this route is the “Camí de s’Arxiduc” (Path of the Archiduke). This spectacular trail was built at the end of the 19th century at the request of the Archduke Ludwig Salvator, who was a member of the imperial family of Austria and Mallorca lover. This route starts from Valldemossa and has a total distance of approximately 14.5 kilometers.

The Puig des Galatzó is one of the most popular mounts for hikers that want to explore part of the Serra de Tramuntana. With its pyramid-like shape, the Puig des Galatzó stands out from the other summits of the sierra and offers fantastic views over the island of Mallorca during the route.
