New organic wine at Son Brull
At Son Brull we are constantly looking for new ways of enhancing and taking care of Majorcan tradition. And that’s how we got interested in ‘vins de la terra’ (wines of the land) and the authentic Majorcan grape varieties.
When we thought about offering an exclusive wine at Son Brull we couldn’t think of a better partner than Bodega Can Axartell. This winery, that has presented their first wines in 2016, was born with the main goal to elaborating Majorcan organic wines taking care of nature and tradition.
This is seen in the planning and design of the winery. They have built it deep into an old stone quarry. The entire winemaking process is constantly supported by the natural coolness of the rock. Furthermore, the architecture of our winery is based on the gravity principle, being one of the few wineries on Mallorca working by this principle. This principle is based on gravity, as the only way the grapes find their way from the vine to the barrel is by gravitational force.
The Can Axartell vineyards are situated in a valley south of Pollença in the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountain range, about 2 km away from Son Brull Boutique Hotel & Spa. Amidst olive groves that are a thousand years old wines of a special quality mature in unique climatic conditions. The region’s typical limestone soil gives their grapes their characteristic minerality and finesse.
The work of Son Brull’s sommelier, Joan Amengual with Can Axartell starts in September 2016, during grape harvest. The idea was set: we wanted to elaborate organic Majorcan wines that would act as the perfect companion to Rafel Perelló’s creative cuisine at Restaurante 3/65. After trying several different grape types and being a part of the process, Joan and the experts at Can Axartell came to a spectacular result. One white, one rosé and one red wine. Each one of the ‘Son Brull special edition Can Axartell’ wines would also be elaborated with autochthonous grape varieties of the island. The white wine is made of ‘prensal callet’ grapes, the rosé with ‘manto negro’ and the red wine is made of ‘callet’.
The Son Brull team is very proud to announce that starting in March you will be able to enjoy our ‘Son Brull special edition by Can Axartell’ wines either at our restaurant or at our shop to become the perfect gift with Majorcan roots and flavour.
